Oxford Sixth Form College aims to help you achieve your desired degree place by offering small group Preparatory Tuition courses in the major tests required by UK universities. Our tuition helps you lay the groundwork for success in the UCAT, BMAT, LNAT, ELAT, HAT, TSA Oxford, and MAT tests.
Many of our admissions test experts are Oxford or Cambridge graduates, and highly experienced in teaching students how to excel in these tests. Below, you will find information about each test, together with information on how we will help you to achieve your best possible score.
The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is used by a range of UK medical and dental schools. The test helps universities make informed choices from amongst the many highly qualified applicants who apply for their medical and dental degree programmes.
Our programme of preparatory tuition at Oxford Sixth Form College will give you guidance on the strategies needed to maximise your score. Our test experts will teach you how the exam is structured and what capabilities it aims to test. We will then look at your responses to UCAT past papers and discuss the best answers. Advice will also be given for further UCAT practice before the test.
The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a subject-specific test for applicants to Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and similar courses at a number of UK universities. It has a different format to the UCAT and is held by some to be a slightly more challenging exam.
Oxford Sixth Form College offers tuition that helps candidates better understand the various demands of the different sections of the test; how the questions are targeted; how to use the time available wisely; and how best to continue their preparation for the test.
The Law National Aptitude Test, or LNAT, is run by a consortium of UK universities. It helps universities make a fairer choice from the many highly qualified applicants who want to join their undergraduate law programmes. We arrange a programme of tuition which will help you to approach the test confidently and efficiently, understanding its structure, the abilities it measures, and how to tackle the different types of question in the exam.
The ELAT (English Literature Admissions Test) is a pre-interview test for applicants to undergraduate courses in English at Oxford University. The test is designed to enable applicants to show their ability in the key skill of close reading – paying attention to such elements as the language, imagery, allusion, syntax, form and structure of the set passages.
We offer a preparatory programme with our test experts that will show you how to display these skills. You will consider how to use your close reading of passages to develop a well-structured and focused argument, and how to draw effective comparisons between the chosen texts. Suggestions will also be made for relevant ELAT revision topics.
The University of Oxford History Aptitude Test (HAT) is for use in the selection of candidates for all degree courses involving History. This test, which aims to examine the skills and potential required for the study of history, provides a basis for comparing candidates from different backgrounds.
A programme of tutorials, based on research into the test, can help applicants to understand what the HAT examiners are looking for. We will help you understand the structure of the test and what the different questions seek to explore. Students and tutor will then critically review responses to past paper questions. Suggestions for further reading will also be given where appropriate.
The TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) is a pre-interview admissions test for applicants to undergraduate courses in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Economics and Management, Experimental Psychology and Psychology, Philosophy and Physiology (PPP) at Oxford University. The tests measure an applicant’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Our preparatory programmes are directed towards giving students a better understanding of the nature and purposes of the test itself, as well as refining the key skills of problem solving, critical thinking and essay planning with the help of past papers.
The Mathematics Aptitude Test (MAT) is a subject-specific entrance test required for applicants to a number of degree courses in mathematics-related subjects at Oxford University and Imperial College, London.
We offer a preparatory programme to help guide applicants in their approach to individual questions and the paper as a whole, suggesting any areas where further study and practice may be required. This allows students to approach the test with greater confidence and assurance.
